The doctrine of a Bible hell and the future punishment of the unrepentant
sinner is being attacked as never before. Some teach a second probation or a
second chance while others teach that there is no sin, consequently no
punishment for sin, hence no hell. The absence of preaching on hell in the
average pulpit is a result of many being deceived by modern philosophy. The cry
of the atheist, the skeptic, the agnostic and the unbeliever against this
doctrine is having its effect, and many are slow to believe in the doctrine of a
Bible hell at all.
"If hell is in the Bible, why do not the preachers warn their
people?" "If men and women are to be punished for their sins, and lost
forever, why not cry aloud and spare not?" These and like expressions are
heard everywhere. The silence of the pulpit and the constant agitation against
the doctrine add to the confusion and doubt of many.
But, my friend, remember that hell is still in the Bible, and the numerous
warnings to escape this fearful doom are there also. Not a single word has been
effaced concerning this subject. With all the attacks, perversions, and
comfortable teaching concerning it, with all the strange silence of the
preachers, the Bible plainly and unequivocally says, "But the fearful
[cowards], unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and
whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part
in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second
death" (Rev.
21:8).
