The Free Will
Gospel - An Abomination To God |
Introduction
Many Christians think that Calvinism and Arminianism are
issues not worth fighting over or dividing over,
if they even know what these terms mean.
But if Calvinism is an accurate summary of God's
plan of salvation and if Arminianism is nothing
more than the popular but false free-will gospel
preached in most so-called Christian churches
these days, how can there be a legitimate middle
ground? How can it be honorable and
pleasing to God to shy away from defending the
truth in the name of unity, brotherhood, peace
or whatever you want to call it?
"Think not that I am come
to send peace on earth: I came not to send
peace, but a sword." [Matthew 10:34]
Does God care what we
believe about these issues?
These issues pertain to the
very core of the Christian faith. The
false free-will gospel in its many forms
(Arminianism, Pelagianism, Semi-Palganism, etc.)
undermines the true gospel, insulting God and
His sovereignty and belittling the wisdom of His
elective plan of salvation.
"Which is not another;
but there be some that trouble you, and
would pervert the gospel of Christ. But
though we, or an angel from heaven, preach
any other gospel unto you than that which we
have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
As we said before, so say I now again, If
any man preach any other gospel unto you
than that ye have received, let him be
accursed." [Galatians 1:7-9]
If in fact Arminianism is
"another gospel", then we can be sure that God
most certainly cares. Those that truly
belong to God, his true children care.
They care about the reputation of their heavenly
Father. They care about biblical truth to
the expense of their reputations and even their
lives. The question is, do you care?
"Therefore I esteem all
thy precepts concerning all things to be
right; and I hate every false way."
[Psalm 119:128]
"I have no greater joy
than to hear that my children walk in truth."
[3John 1:4]
"But the hour cometh, and
now is, when the true worshippers shall
worship the Father in spirit and in truth:
for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship
him must worship him in spirit and in truth."
[John 4:23-24]
Does God want us to divide
over these issues?
The truth of the Gospel is an
issue to die for, an issue that many have died
for. It was His testimony to the truth
that brought Christ to the cross:
"Pilate therefore said
unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus
answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To
this end was I born, and for this cause
came I into the world, that I should bear
witness unto the truth. Every one
that is of the truth heareth my voice.
Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?" [John
18:37-38]
If Jesus
had denied the truth of who he was and what his
gospel was all about, he could have brought
great favor to himself in the eyes of the
religious and civil leaders of his time.
But it was the proclamation of the truth that
brought the wrath of the unsaved upon him.
"they that passed by
reviled him, wagging their heads, And
saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and
buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou
be the Son of God, come down from the cross."
[Matthew 27:39-40]
Do you know that you are
mocking God and His gospel of salvation by grace
alone, when you subscribe to and promote the
free-will gospel. How dare anyone make the
claim that they are better than God says they
are. God says we are all lost, without
hope, spiritually dead. They free-will
gospel contradict God's assessment of man.
It ascribes some ability to the sinner to reach
out to God while yet unregenerated.
The free-will gospel puts God
at the mercy of man, waiting and hoping that the
rebellious sinner will "accept" Him. What
a stench in the nostrils of God must this gospel
be. Those who adamantly cling to their
free-will gospel pride themselves in being
"fairer" than the God of the Calvinists.
The only problem with that thinking is that they
are wrong and they are denying God's word.
God does not give everyone an "equal" chance at
being saved. Salvation is not a matter of
chance. It is a matter of the
predetermined will of the Almighty.
