Some folks may say this is "nit picking"
but we are what we speak. If you really are a Christian then you
should not want to act or sound like the people headed for hell all
around you. You should be anxious to please God rather than offend
Him. However, if you wish to avoid making hell-bound sinners
uncomfortable around you then don't bother reading the rest of this
article.
God would prefer that instead of using
disguised swear words, we would use words of praise, encouragement,
thankfulness and any words that would lift up the name of Christ and
would be helpful and beneficial to the hearers... so that there is no
doubt to the hearers Who we belong to and what His holy kingdom is like.
Here are some Bible verses that make this fact quite clear:
Ephesians 4:29 - "Let no corrupt
communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to
the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers."
Ephesians 5:3 - "But fornication, and all
uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as
becometh saints; 4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor
jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. 5
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous
man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ
and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of
these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them."
Matthew 12:34 "O generation of vipers,
how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance
of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good
treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of
the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you,
That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account
thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be
justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."
Romans 3:13 - "Their throat is an open
sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps
is under their lips: 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and
bitterness"
1Corinthians 15:33 - "Be not deceived:
evil communications corrupt good manners."
Colossians 3:8 - "But now ye also put off
all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out
of your mouth."
Colossians 3:16 - "Let the word of Christ
dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your
hearts to the Lord."
Colossians 4:6 - "Let your speech be
alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to
answer every man."
1Thessalonians 5:18 - "In every thing
give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning
you."
Psalms 37:30 - "The mouth of the
righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment. 31 The
law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide."
Psalms 71:24 - "My tongue also shall talk
of thy righteousness all the day long"
Proverbs 10:32 - "The lips of the
righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh
frowardness."
Proverbs 15:4 - "A wholesome tongue is a
tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit."
