Why You Should Not Trust Your Children To A Youth Pastor
Here is a comment on Facebook from a parent who trusted her 12 year old daughter to a 30+ year old youth pastor:
XXXXX (name-omitted), I will be posting your picture here every day so that nobody forgets the horrible things and all the hurt that you put on so many innocent people including all the mind games that you played on my precious daughter, YYYYY (name-omitted) who at the time of these atrocities was not even eighteen years of age. I hope that you are charged by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with every maximum charge allowable by the law. I will not stop posting this until you are convicted, and you will be. May God show as much mercy on you as you showed on all of your victims as well as all of the adults who trusted you. You were a fast talker then, can’t wait to see how you fast talk your way out of this one. I will stare you down at every court proceeding until the proceedings come to a conclusion. One thing you didn’t think about when you were hurting all these innocent children and some of their parents is that God’s punishment and wrath is far worse than anything that a human being can think of doing to you. I hope you don’t sleep at night knowing what you have done. You have robbed me and many of our peace and security since 2010 and i pray what you did haunts you every day of your life. I hope you remember and see each and every person you hurt as you walk thought life. No amount of punishment that the courts can do to you will ever equal the pain you have caused to me and so many. God help you, you will need all the help you can get. – written by the mother of a girl victimized by a youth pastor.
NOTE: The above referenced youth pastor apparently committed suicide while out on bail, rather than face the consequences of his actions.
Is It Just A Few Bad Apples?
Regarding the above horror story you may say “Well, that’s just one bad apple. Most youth pastors are not like that.” To that I would ask How in the world would YOU know? And also, take a good hard look at Appendix A below for just a truncated sampling of news articles about youth pastors charged with criminal behavior, sexual and otherwise. And how many bad apples is too many for parents with vulnerable children who could be violated and then traumatized for a lifetime?
Cause & Effect Of Living In A Grossly Immoral Society
First of all, we live in a world full of sexual temptation including massive amounts of Internet porn, sexually explicit TV shows, news programs, movies, commercials, and a world FULL of promiscuous men and women, immoral role models, schools that preach moral relativism, and ever more scantily-clad and makeup-laden girls and women. In fact, today’s mothers have no clue as to how immodest they are themselves. You can go on Facebook and see photos of pastor’s wives showing as much makeup and as much cleavage as anyone outside of the Church. Women around the world have been desensitized – to their own immodesty – for decades by the media and the world around them.
Living in an immoral society of course does not justify the actions of sexual predators by any means… but it does in fact show the law of cause and effect…. a godless society cannot and SHOULD NOT expect to find very many godly youth pastors. Parents need to STRONGLY warn their daughters about the dangers of dressing immodestly and the even greater dangers of being alone around men. It would help the children to read stories (minus all the gory details) about how children just like them got hurt by people and how those situations can happen – by being alone with someone of the opposite sex for starters. Parents also need to repeatedly teach their children, not only when to say “no” or “stop”, they also to REPORT to their parents any violations of standards of behavior towards their children, especially the most serious violations, by other children as well as by adults.
The Problem – Unbiblical Methods Of Hiring
Second of all, the typical church leadership does not even have ANY IDEA of the moral character of their fellow church leaders, since they SELDOM – if ever – raise up leaders from within the local congregation and when they do chose leaders from outside the church their main criteria is rarely “moral character” but rather, what scholastic accomplishments do the candidates for leadership have and where did they preach or teach previously and how good are they at attracting youth, at attracting new members and at keeping tithe-payers in the pews.
The moral of this story is simply this:
If you don’t teach your children how to survive in a predatory world, they will undoubtedly become victims of predators… predators disguised as boyfriends, youth pastors, school teachers and even aunts, uncles and cousins. Who do you think is locked up in so many of the sexual crimes wards of today’s prison system?
Likewise, if a church is selfish and lazy when it comes to locating staff, they too will become victims, especially the congregations of these lazy and selfish churches.
