The Missing Commandment

The Catholic Church Threw Out One Of The Ten Commandments

The ten commandments taught by the Catholic church to her followers are DIFFERENT than the ten commandments mentioned in the Catholic bible.  The commandments they teach, OMIT the commandment forbidding statues (also referred to as graven images).   They then split the tenth commandmant (You shall not covet) into two commandments (“You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife” and “You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods”).

Here are the ten commandments that the Catholic church teachers its members:

  1. I am the LORD your God. You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve.
  2.

  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
  4.

  5. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.
  6.

  7. Honor your father and your mother.
  8.

  9. You shall not kill.
  10.

  11. You shall not commit adultery.
  12.

  13. You shall not steal.
  14.

  15. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  16.

  17. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.
  18.

  19. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.

The Catholic bible still contains all ten of the ten commandments including the one that forbids making and adoring [literally bowing down to] statues as highlighted below.

Exodus Chapter 20, verses 3 through 17 (Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition):

  1. Thou shalt not have strange gods before me.
  2.

  3. Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth.  Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me: And shewing mercy unto thousands to them that love me, and keep my commandments.
  4.

  5. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that shall take the name of the Lord his God in vain.
  6.

  7. Remember that thou keep holy the sabbath day. Six days shalt thou labour, and shalt do all thy works. But on the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work on it, thou nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy beast, nor the stranger that is within thy gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them, and rested on the seventh day: therefore the Lord blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it.
  8.

  9. Honour thy father and thy mother, that thou mayest be longlived upon the land which the Lord thy God will give thee.
  10.

  11. Thou shalt not kill.
  12.

  13. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
  14.

  15. Thou shalt not steal.
  16.

  17. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
  18.

  19. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house: neither shalt thou desire his wife, nor his servant, nor his handmaid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is his.
  20.

Do you think that perhaps the Catholic Church removed the commandment regarding making statues because they make money selling statues? Perhaps they don’t want to let go of statues they borrowed from pagan gods and goddesses of ancient Rome.
