How I Know I Am Saved

Or: How I Know That I Am One Of God’s Elect

A Short Analogy About The Experience Of The “New Birth”

 
I posted this message on a discussion forum on Facebook recently and felt it might be of interest to others who are inquiring into the subject being “born again” by way of of salvation through the merits of the Lord Jesus Christ alone.
 
This is how I know I am one of God’s elect (know that I am “saved” now and for eternity) – At the point of salvation, regeneration occurs. This is a supernatural act of God. God’s Holy Spirit indwells (takes up residence in) the one being saved. It’s like you had amnesia your entire life up to that point and could not remember anything about your earthly father and then all of a sudden, the amnesia goes away and you start remembering your father… you know who he is and you can hear his voice in your mind because you now remember what his voice sounds like. And so it is with the “new birth”… You truly start to recognize your heavenly Father and you hear His voice in scripture. When He speaks to you through scripture, you realize that He is speaking to you as a son or daughter, and not as some distant unknowable Being. And you realize that you can talk to God as you would talk to your own earthly father (in person that is), not as a far away stranger. — R.M. Kane
