The Real Message Behind The Birth Of Jesus Christ

reason purpose for birth of Jesus Christ

What is the PRIMARY message behind the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ?

God’s message for the world is not about a cute little baby being born in a manger providing another holiday for us. God’s message – also referred to as the Gospel of Jesus Christ – is a message of Good News. But it’s Good News that most people don’t want to know about or don’t even care about, because most people don’t grasp the dire situation they are in spiritually. They don’t grasp the BAD NEWS pertaining to their eternal souls, that even on their “best” days God, who is sinless and infinitely holy, sees them as hell-deserving sinners who are totally unfit and unprepared to spend eternity with such a holy Being.

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” Isaiah 64:6

So the PRIMARY message pertaining to the birth of Jesus is about sinners like you and I. We are the reason that the Lord Jesus Christ had to leave His glory in Heaven and be born into this God-hating sin-cursed world… because of God’s extremely high standards of holiness and justice. A sinless DIVINE Savior had to die a horrible death to pay the penalty – the ONLY payment that God will accept – to pardon those sinners who trust in Jesus and trust in His sacrificial death ALONE for the salvation of their hell-deserving souls.

“I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour.” Isaiah 43:11

The birth of Jesus Christ was timed so that the death of Jesus Christ would occur at a time in human history when the most brutal rulers were in power and the most awful form of execution was commonly practiced. It was timed when the nation of Israel was looking for their Messiah to come and deliver them from such tyrannical leaders. For those who don’t know about (or don’t understand) the side of God that has to do with His WRATH (as it pertains to His extreme hatred for SIN), all you have to do is look at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and you will see the most graphic example of God’s hatred for sin. Jesus Christ is called “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”, precisely because He became the sacrificial lamb, and the scapegoat, for sinners, providing a way out, the ONLY way out, of eternity in Hell that God says you and I deserve for our sins. We don’t get to heaven by being GOOD. We get to heaven by being made completely sinless, holy and righteous. GOD has to do it. It is a supernatural transaction involving the Holy Spirit, whereby the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ is accounted to the sinner and ALL the sins of the sinner are credited to the account of Jesus. A saved sinner still sins in this lifetime but their SIN DEBT has been paid in full. And those saved sinners become indwelt by the Holy Spirit enabling them to live a life focused on God and focused on obedience to Him.

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

We may not realize it, but our good deeds don’t erase our bad deeds. And we may not realize it, but God will judge us for every sinful thought, word and deed of our entire lifetime, including all the sinful things that we did not even realize were an offense against God. The only way OUT of this dire situation is to throw ourselves at the mercy of God. We have NOTHING to offer Him for PAYMENT of our SIN DEBT, nothing that He will accept. He has already declared us spiritually bankrupt. However, the wonderful truth of the Gospel is that Christ’s righteousness and His sacrificial death FULLY satisfies Divine Justice for the sins of all who will trust in Him alone.

“For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;” Hebrews 7:26

Every time you think of the birth of Christ, remember that that Divine Person – the Ruler of Heaven and Earth – voluntarily subjected Himself to things that no sinless Supreme Being should ever have to endure.

When you read John 3:16 you should not forget to read further in that tremendously important chapter of the Bible because there you will find the PRIMARY message of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ…

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” John 3:16-19
