Is Mohammed God’s Messenger?
Many people say that Mohammed is the last prophet sent by God. How can we know for sure if he really was God’s prophet?
First, let us look at the prophecies about a messenger from God, mentioned by an earlier prophet:
The prophet Malachi said:
“Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.” (Malachi 3:1)
Jesus Christ said this about John the Baptist:
“For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” (Matthew 11:10-15)
So God’s messenger spoken of my Malachi was John the Baptist, and he arrived almost 600 years before Mohammed.
What about the message?
Even if you don’t believe that John the Baptist was God’s messenger, not Mohammed, the most important thing to be concerned about is the MESSAGE. What did Moses and all the Old Testament prophets have in common? It was their message. The message related to the covenant that Malachi spoke about. Here is that message:
“Salvation is of the Lord” (Jonah 2:9)
So what is meant by “Salvation is of the Lord?”. The answer to that extremely important question is described here:
1. We can’t pay for our sins ourselves. Compared to God, we are so sinful and God is so holy, that we could never make up for the bad things we do. In fact, God looks at our good deeds as filthy rags:
“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:4)
2. Salvation is a gift from God, not something that you earn or work for:
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
3. If we try to pay for our sins by ourselves, through prayers or good deeds, we will end up in Hell for all eternity, because it will take all eternity in Hell for a person to pay for their sins themselves or with any human effort:
“And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;” (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9)
4. We can only get to Heaven by having our sins paid for by a perfect, divine person. Someone who could suffer the full penalty (eternity in hell) and only God could pay that great a penalty and suffer that greatly. And God did do such a thing in the person of Jesus Christ:
“he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:5-6)
5. We need the blood of an innocent sinless victim to be sacrificed to pay for our sins:
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.” (Moses in Leviticus 17:11)
6. Only God is sinless and perfect so only He could pay for someone’s sins. So, God himself provided the blood sacrifice like He did when He asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac:
“And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together. And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.” (Genesis 22:6-8)
7. John the Baptist said Jesus was the Messiah that would be sacrificed like a lamb:
“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29)
8. The prophet Isaiah said the Messiah had to die:
“He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.” (Isaiah 53:7-8)
9. Jesus said he would die and that His death would be a ransom (a payment) for the sins of others:
Jesus said: “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)
“And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man [Jesus] is betrayed to be crucified.” (Matthew 26:1-2)
10. Jesus really did die as payment for the sins of those people he came to save:
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” (Romans 5:8-9)
11. The Messiah rose from the dead, proving that He was and is God, because He had power over life and death:
“And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” (Matthew 28:5-6)
“And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.” (John 20:26-28)
12. No more prophets were needed after John the Baptist. Jesus warned people that false prophets would be coming in the future:
“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” (Matthew 24:11)
How Big Is Your God?
Do you have trouble believing that Jesus is God? Most people want a god who is easy to understand with the human mind. They can’t understand how God could come to earth as a man. They don’t understand how God could die or how God could have a Son. So most people refuse to believe that Jesus is God. Jesus gave plenty of proof that He is God. He brought dead people back to life. He healed people who were blind and deaf from birth. One of the most important things that Jesus did that proved He is God is that He rose from the dead and was seen by over 500 witnesses: “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once” (1 Corinthians 15:3-6).
Mohammed did not come back from the dead. His body is still in the ground. “And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” (1 John 4:14-15)
Do You Have A Saviour?
Are you like most people, trying to work your way to heaven? Do you think your prayers and good deeds will get rid of all your sins? If you do, then you have no idea of how much God hates sin: “For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.” (Deuteronomy 4:24). God is much holier than people realize. Sins are not just bad things that we do. People don’t realize that they are breaking God’s commandments all day long, every day, just by the things they say and the thoughts in their minds. By the time most people get old and die, they have committed perhaps millions of sins. Even just one sin will send a person to hell for eternity. Adam and Eve were cursed by God for committing just one sin. That is how holy God is. Only Jesus can take away sins. His death is the only acceptable payment for anyone’s sins. He rose from the dead on the third day after he was crucified and he can now grant you a complete pardon for all you sins, all your wicked and selfish thoughts, words and deeds. You must repent of your sins, forsaking them and hating them as God hates them… “Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.” (Ezekiel 14:6). Ask God to give you a hatred for your sins and to enable you to faithfully serve Him. Cry out to God to have mercy on you and to save your lost soul from the wrath to come – before its too late… “God be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13).
“How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation”
(Hebrews 2:3)
