Jesus Christ & The Pope Compared

How does the Catholic “Vicar Of Christ” measure up to the Lord Jesus Christ whom the pope claims to represent here on earth? Should we care? I would think that we should GREATLY care, if the eternal destiny of our souls is at stake. If the leader of the Catholic church is involved in the various kinds of unbiblical and unChristian things mentioned below, how can you be sure he is leading you correctly regarding salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ? Many Christian-like cults claim they are the one true Church and they often claim that their founders or leaders were the people whom we should follow if we want to get to heaven or “paradise” someday. So let’s take a good close look at the pope of Rome as contrasted to Jesus Christ.

If God considers the pope – the so-called “holy father” of Catholicism – to be a sinner in need of salvation, what must He think of YOU?

Since the ruler of the Catholic church has titles that rightfully belong solely to Jesus Christ, it is only fair that we see if these two persons have anything in common. We will do that by examining the Pope and comparing him with what Jesus teaches in the Holy Bible. If you too have been fooled by the Church of Rome into believing that the pope is somebody special to God, you’re not alone. Millions of others have been deceived also, including the author of this article, at one time. And in a similar fashion people around the world and people from the beginning of time have been fooled into believing that various charismatic men & women are somehow more in touch with God than themselves, when nothing could be further from the truth.

The pope lets people refer to him as the Sovereign of the State of Vatican City, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Jesus Christ, Successor of St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Patriarch of the West, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Pontifex Maximus, and “the Pope”.

Jesus said: “For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” [Luke 14:11] and “But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.” [Matthew 23:5-7]

The pope lets people call him “Holy Father”. This is a blasphemous insult to God, because Holy Father is a title and a role that belongs to God ALONE! In all of the entire Bible, the title Holy Father is used only once, in reference to God the Father in Heaven. The person using that title is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ. NEVER did ANYONE in the Bible ever DARE to call a mere mortal “Holy Father”!

Jesus said: “And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.” [John 17:11]

The pope has thousands of servants subordinate to himself called Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, Priests, Monks, and Nuns.

Jesus said: “Many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.” [Matthew 19:30] and “And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.” [Mark 10:44]

The pope talks about peace and love and yet he has yet to reverse the blood thirsty decrees that his church put in place to sanction the murder of people who disagree with Catholicism.

Jesus said: “All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.” [Matthew 23:3] and “He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.” [Mark 7:6]

The pope runs his own self-governed country called Vatican City that has its own secretary of state who meets with ambassadors from many nations.

Jesus said: “My kingdom is not of this world” [John 18:36].

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” [2Thes 2:3-4]

The pope says he is infallible in matters of faith and morals.

Jesus said: “There shall be false teachers among you” [2 Peter 2:1]. The pope is the greatest false teacher of all. Not only is he NOT infallible in matters of faith and morals, he preaches a false soul-damning, man-centered, works salvation plan. The Catholic salvation plan denies that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross of Calvary was able to pay the full sin debt owed to God by lost sinners. What that boils down to, is that the pope and the millions of souls following him don’t even know what a true Savior is and they are all headed for hell if they die trusting in their religious system rather than the merits of Christ ALONE.

The pope lives in an enormous palace in Rome surrounded with art treasures from around the world in a number of extremely ornate buildings.

Jesus said: “Foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath no where to lay his head.” [Matthew 8:20]

The pope controls immeasurable wealth that could be given to the poor.

Jesus said: “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal” [Matthew 6:20]

The pope gets a royal welcome from heads of state of almost all countries on earth.

Jesus said: “Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.” [Luke 6:26]

We all need to be very concerned about who we listen to when it comes to our eternal dwelling place. If we are trusting in the teachings and traditions of men rather than the teachings of God in the Holy Bible, then we are sure to find ourselves under the wrath of God for all eternity:

“Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” [Mark 7:7]

“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” [Matthew 7:22-23]

Why do we even have popes, or gurus, or other “holy men”?

Sinful man wants a sinful god, a god he can see, a god like himself.  So he dresses up a sinner to look holy and he assigns divine attributes to this mere mortal, and … presto! … he has himself a man-made god!  One who is not holy and not sinless, but rather, one who does not make the worshipper feel too uncomfortable about his own sinfulness. So for the moment, Catholics have Jorge Mario Bergoglio (a.k.a. Papa Francisco, a.k.a. Pope Francis). Previoulsy they had Joseph Alois Ratzinger (a.k.a. Pope Benedict).  Buddhists have their founder Siddhartha Gotama. Hindus have Lord Krishna and various gurus such as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and Satya Sai Baba. Muslims have Mohammed whose writings in the Koran they believe are from God so that they can justfiy in their own minds that it is OK to kill people who don’t agree with them.  Each religion has its “holy men” (or women), whom the worshippers idolize, whom they are preoccupied with, so that they might not have to deal with the thrice-holy God of the Bible – though all of us will have to deal with Him some day.

What About Christian Schools?

As a father who has increasingly come to believe that home education is the best method of raising children, I am very interested in the reasoning of those who support public schooling or private Christian education.

Recently I saw a book called The Christian School, by Noel Weeks, and I bought it in order to find out the biblical basis for sending children to Christian schools. What I found was some great reasons for home education!

In his first chapter, entitled “Why Schooling?”, the author raises the question of the basis for Christian schools. He begins with this statement: “Part of the problem is that the Bible does not mention schools. Hence Christians have a tendency to accept what is believed and practiced in the society around them.” This is true.

He continues: “In both the Old Testament and the New Testament the responsibility for the training of children is placed upon the parents.” Support is offered from Deuteronomy 6:4-7 and Ephesians 6:4, and additional Scripture is presented to demonstrate the nature of the training parents are supposed to give their children. Among other things, it is to be “comprehensive in its scope,” meaning that it must be carried on “all the time. There is no part of the day’s activities upon which the truth of God does not impinge.”

What about the role of the church in education? The author acknowledges the church’s educational role since the children are part of the congregation, but he again affirms, “Whenever Scripture singles out people as responsible for the training of children it places that responsibility upon the parents.” Again, “…when both Testaments deal specifically with the training of children, then they give the parents that task.”

In a section with the heading “The Bible and Schools” Mr. Weeks discusses various arguments that are sometimes heard as to whether there were schools in biblical times and how that may impinge on God’s direction for us today. The bottom line, he concludes, is that we cannot use the possible existence of something the Bible does not even mention to put aside what the Bible clearly sets before us. “Hence we have to try to work out the implications of what we actually find in Scripture.”

This brings him to consider home education. “Obviously those who argue that parents should educate their own children are trying to take seriously the biblical teaching.” He even sets aside the arguments of those who do not believe parents can do the job.

“We must not use our supposed incompetence or lack of time as an excuse for disobedience to a biblical command. If we have problems and difficulties in obeying the commandment, then we should seek ways to overcome them. Our responsibilities as parents cannot be simply brushed aside.”

He even dismisses the broad assertion of some that parents are simply not competent to teach in a day of expanding knowledge. Rather, he writes, “Some educators have built a mystique around education to justify their own employment to train teachers.” His conclusion: “…then we would say that most parents could teach their children. They may have to do a little study themselves but they could do it.”

By now as I read this I am asking myself: What basis then is there for promoting schooling instead of home education? He has, in effect, proven an able apologist for homeschooling. So I read on.

As to the obstacles to home education:

The greater problem is time. This problem particularly concerns fathers. For while Scripture does refer to the role of both parents in training the child (Prov. 1:8) there is a definite tendency to place particular responsibility on the father (e.g. Eph. 6:4). We might wish for a return to a situation in which small farming or cottage industry gave men time to be with their families while working and considerable flexibility in their hours of work. Though it may seem like an impossible dream, we as Christians need to think and work towards a work style that is more conducive to family life.

However, in the interim, we must find a way of reconciling our need to work to support our families and our need to train our children comprehensively in the ways of the Lord. Mothers can fill some of that gap but they will not fill all of it.

When we as Christians have difficulty in meeting our responsibilities we naturally turn to our fellow believers for help.

This is the point at which he introduces the need for Christian schools. They are a means of parents helping each other to fulfill their responsibilities, though he admits that “most Christian schools do not meet this ideal. There is a strong tendency for them to ape the state schools in which the parents effectively hand over the children to the ‘expert’ teacher and have no say or role in education.”

Did you follow the reasoning? Fathers are busy supporting the family and mothers cannot do the job by themselves, so we need Christian schools, even though most of them reinforce the tendency of parents to abdicate their responsibilities.

But all his own arguments, including his final appeal for working toward patterns that are more conducive to family life, should lead to another conclusion: we should make whatever sacrifice necessary to do what God has called us as parents to do. We cannot just “brush aside” the responsibility Scripture gives us. Again, “If we have problems and difficulties in obeying the commandment, then we should seek ways to overcome them.” We cannot allow a “lack of time as an excuse for disobedience to a biblical command.” Yes, exactly!

Christian schools are a commendable alternative to the degenerate state schools, but they are not (even according to this advocate of them) the ideal. Fathers should seek to overcome whatever impediments keep them from training their own children. God’s ordained educational institution is the family.

Sheep & Goats

“All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” Matt 25:32-34

Did you know that when speaking of who will become saved and who will be damned, those that the Bible refers to as goats do not become sheep?  LOST sheep become FOUND sheep.  That is, God’s people (His Elect) become saved.  They are still sheep before they are saved. They are not goats.   GOATS are those whom God has not elected to salvation.  And only God knows who they are.  Also, it is possible that a LOST sheep may not become FOUND until just before death.

Was the kingdom of God and of Heaven prepared for the goats? Not according to scripture.

Matthew 10:5 – “These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

Note that lost sheep become found sheep but goats do not become sheep. Also, lost sheep do not find themselves nor is there ever any mention of them seeking the shepherd, but there is mention of them going astray and going their own way:

Isaiah 53:6 – “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

Notice that the words “us all” refer back to the sheep, God’s elect, as confirmed just two verses later in the same chapter of Isaiah, by the use of the term “my people”:

Isaiah 53:8 – “He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.”

Note also how it is the shepherd who seeks the sheep and not the other way around:

Matthew 18:12 – “How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?”

Here are some Bible verses that show, from God’s perspective, that there is a difference to Him, as to who are His people or who will be His people (i.e. the sheep) and who are not and will never be (i.e. the goats).
