Smiley-Face Christianity:
The Gospel For The 21st Century

smiley face Christianity

Modern man wants a modern gospel, a more palatable plan of salvation, one that has a more seeker-friendly message accompanied by a happy-face delivery boy.  And such a gospel – which is no gospel at all – must adhere to certain socially acceptable guidelines to be acceptable to today’s “tolerant” generation, the generation that tolerates anything OTHER THAN biblical truth.  Here are those modern guidelines:

  • Do your best to preach without hurting anyone’s feelings.
  • You must be “doing it wrong” if you upset or offend your listeners.
  • Be sure to present your views as no more valid than anyone else’s.
  • Never tell anyone that their religion or their views about heaven are wrong.
  • You cannot preach about hell… that word must be totally avoided.
  • Do not refer to people as sinners, but simply as fallible human beings.
  • Avoid using the word sin… Call sins “mistakes” instead.
  • Never talk about damnation, only about God’s “unconditional love”.
  • Use a modern bible that has been edited to remove offensive words and doctrines.
  • If you must talk about sin, never use specific examples, just speak in general terms so that no one will think you are talking about them.
  • Never ever call homosexuality a sin.  Instead, say that God loves everyone even though the bible says homosexuality is an abomination to God [Leviticus 20:13] and even though the bible says that God hates the workers of iniquity [Psalm 5:5]

Based upon the above guidelines for modern evangelism, John The Baptist would never have been beheaded if he had not been so “intolerant” about the behavior of others.  He should have just minded his own business.  But instead he had to go out and “judge” others, making himself a “bad example” for witnessing.  The evangelist Stephen would never have been stoned to death if he had not made the Jewish religious leaders so angry by his “mean-spirited” speech about their hypocrisy and sinfulness.  And the apostle Paul would have gotten many more “converts” and a lot less flack if he had only avoided certain subjects (like the exclusiveness of salvation by Jesus Christ).  But he had to be “obnoxious” and tell people the truth.  And of course Jesus Christ destroyed so many people’s “self esteem” by constantly telling them to “go and sin no more”.  If he had only stuck to miracles and healings, he would have been much more “popular” and would never have been crucified.  In fact just about everyone would have liked him… At one point during his ministry the Jews even wanted to make him their king.  But he ended up “upsetting” too many people in high places by violating the evangelism guidelines above.  Perhaps Jesus was not familiar with “friendship” evangelism, where deeds are preferred over creeds.

If you are in a church that uses the “modern” approach to sharing the gospel, run from it as fast as you can and find a church that preaches the whole counsel of God and that loudly and clearly warns the lost to flee the wrath to come.

The Modern Gospel Is Not The True Gospel!

“Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” [Matthew 24:23-24]

The one thing that, in all my years as a twice-born child of God, leaps out at me as being something that could “almost” deceive the “very elect” is the MODERN gospel.  Of course you can add other things to that list that are things that young believers don’t always grasp easily such as whether or not you can lose your salvation or whether or not “speaking in tongues” is for today.  Yet nothing is quite as deceptive as the MODERN gospel. And what makes it so insidious is the fact that this MODERN gospel is so prevalent and it does such a remarkable job of warping a person’s perception of who God is and what the true condition of fallen mankind is.  The MODERN gospel is not something completely brand new this year or this decade.  It has been around for a while but it is becoming more and more popular among churches that call themselves evangelical and Bible-believing.

The MODERN Gospel

The TRUE Gospel

Also known as: Arminianism, Free-willism Also known as: Calvinism, The Doctrines Of Grace
Denominations that preach it:
Almost every protestant denomination and some churches within the denominations listed to the right.
Denominations that preach it:
Reformed Baptists, Orthodox Presbyterians, Sovereign Grace churches, some Southern Baptist churches and a few others.
How to identify it:
Preachers and teachers who believe the MODERN gospel use alter calls and emotional pleas to persuade sinners to “accept Christ”.  They use gospel tracts with some kind of salvation formula such as “the Romans Road” or “the Four Spiritual Laws”.   They instruct people to recite a sinner’s prayer and then proclaim that if that prayer (like a Christian mantra) is recited (sincerely of course) then the person, by that act of their will, has become saved and is ready for heaven.  The modern gospel preachers and teachers tell people indiscriminantly that God loves them and has a wonderful plan for their life, as if they were God and as if they know who God loves or whom God has chosen to be His people.  They like to talk about how many people they led to Christ.  They tell people to bow their heads and close their eyes so that sinners will not feel uncomfortable stepping forward in a church to “accept Christ”, as if their comfort is the issue and not the fact that they may be one heartbeat away from eternity in hell.
How to identify it:
Preachers and teachers who believe the TRUE gospel do NOT use alter calls or emotional pleas. They use the Word of God to convict sinners of sin.  They preach about God’s law, His holiness, His righteousness, His hatred for sin, His wrath towards sinners and the eternal judgment of hell.  They warn people to repent or perish. Only then do they preach about God’s grace and mercy. They preach that prior to salvation, man is spiritually dead and incapable of turning to God in that condition.  They preach the Gospel because God has commanded them to, not for results or numbers of converts.   They know that if people do not get saved by their preaching, God is still glorified, because His opinion of the lostness of man is proven by man’s rejection of the truth and man’s hatred of God’s word concerning man’s total depravity.

What about people who say they are neither a Calvinist nor an Arminian?

Some folks say they are not Arminians and not Calvinists, they are “biblicists”… they just believe the Bible (not realizing there are certain parts of the Bible they may not even know about and that they wouldn’t agree with if you showed them).  These people sometimes call themselves 3-point-5 or 4-point Calvinists because they reject one or more points of Calvinism, such as the limited nature of Christ’s atonement or the total depravity of man..  Often they are still free-willers even if they claim to believe in man’s responsibility and God’s sovereignty.  The truth is, you cannot reject ANY of the doctrines of God’s grace (a.k.a. 5 points of Calvinism) and still have the TRUE gospel.  On the other hand, you may have an incomplete understanding of the gospel, but if you are truly “in Christ” you will not find yourself fighting against or preaching against those who preach and teach Calvinism.

Getting back to the verses in Matthew chapter 24 that we quoted at the beginning… what then are the “great signs and wonders” of the MODERN gospel?  One thing is the amazing (and untrue) ability for lost sinners to get themselves saved anytime they wish.  Because if that were true, it would mean that they have the power to regenerate themselves or that God is at their mercy waiting for the rebellious, spiritually dead sinner to find some good in himself and some power in and of himself to seek God, clearly contradicting Romans 3:11 and Romans 8:7&8.

“There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.” [Romans 3:11]
“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” [Romans 8:7-8]

Another great sign and wonder of this MODERN gospel is the ability of preachers to get hundreds and even thousands of people to walk down an aisle and “accept Christ”, when all those folks are really doing is buying “fire insurance” (a quick ticket to heaven and a easy way around hell), thinking that the act of their will to come forward and recite a “sinner’s prayer” is all that is needed to enter into the kingdom of God.  When in truth, it takes a supernatural act of God to enter His kingdom:

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” [John 3:6-7]

No one gives birth to themselves.  Hence no sinner can get himself saved.  His salvation is totally and completely dependent upon the mercy of God.

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” [John 3:12-13]

And don’t kid yourself into thinking that verse 12 above gives you a leg to stand on regarding man’s involvement in salvation.  The ONLY ones who will ever “receive him” (i.e. Christ) are those, who by the will of God, have been brought to spiritual life by God the Holy Spirit.

“As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.” [Romans 9:13-16]

While it is possible that some people who walk down an aisle or respond to an “altar call” may really be truly converted,  it is the fact that they already are saved that makes them want to truly repent and sincerely follow the Christ of the Bible in spirit and in truth.  Sooner or later, even with bad teaching and preaching, these folks will be able to discern the difference between the MODERN gospel and the TRUE Gospel.

To those of you who don’t like this article, I refer you to Acts 9:5 [1].  And to those who have been truly redeemed by the blood of the Lamb I refer you to Revelation 5:9 [2]!

Which Bible Verses Did The NIV Delete?

Several readers have asked me this question so I thought it worthwhile to include my response here. Please note that these are only WHOLE verses that the NIV deletes. This list does not include the many words and phrases that were completely deleted from the NIV–it deletes over 64,000 words including words like mercyseat, Jehovah, and Godhead. It removes meaningful, well-known Bible words like Calvary, Lucifer, new testament, regeneration, etc. Most of the modern Bibles line up very closely with the NIV–and so does the New World Translation–the Bible of the Jehovah’s Witnesses which predates the NIV!

When you read below where I say that a verse is COMPLETELY deleted, I mean clean/bald-headed/gone/vanished deleted. For instance, if you search for Acts 8:37 in the NIV you will read,

36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?”

38 And he ordered the chariot to stop. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.

Verse 37 is CLEAN, BALD-HEADED, GONE, VANISHED, MY FRIENDS (and it is a powerful verse)! Some foolish people have written me saying, “But it says something in the footnotes.” I have three responses. (1) When you are reading your Bible do you look at the footnotes after every verse? Do you say “I am reading verse 3 so let me look below and see if something in verse 3 is missing.”? Even if you did do that (which you don’t) the footnotes say that the “best manuscripts” don’t have the verse–will you then agree with them that the verse doesn’t belong? If not, then why are you reading an NIV? (2) Not all the word deletions are found in the footnotes of the NIV so don’t think for a second that they are letting you know all the changes they made. (3) The next logical step will be for the NIV to omit the footnotes and just reorder everthing. In the example above verse 38 would become verse 37 so it wouldn’t look funny. Look at the J.B. Phillips translation–that heretick didn’t number the individual verses so you don’t know what you’re missing. It’s paragraph style. The NIV may go that way too. They are desensitizing you to the changing of the very words of God. In summary, they’ll either renumber or go to that paragraph format.

Wait a minute, hold the presses! I got the following from Bill W. one of our dear readers:

“I was in the Christian Book store today. I saw some thing that shocked me. I look through the Bibles often. I looked at the CHILDREN’S NIV. I looked up the missing verses and there was something I could not believe. I looked up Matt 17:21 and of course it is missing BUT in this Children’s Bible it was typed out like this 20/21 and the 21st verse was still missing. They make you think that you read the 21st verse but it still is just the 20th verse! Can you believe it???!!! If you want to look for yourself find the CHILDREN’S NIV BIBLE, and see for yourself. I did look in the other NIV’s to see if they did the same thing. They DID NOT do that, BUT how long before they do?????!”

They are already sneaking the deletions into the children’s Bibles! This is the second time that I’ve heard of those foxes pulling one over on little helpless children. The other thing I’ve seen them do is retranslate the kids’ and prisoners’ Bibles to make them gender neutral. Of course those foxes didn’t market them that way, they just snuck in the gender inclusivity. See this article for details.

Another update! I just opened the JW “Bible”, the New World Translation (1961 ed.), and looked up all the verses that the NIV completely deletes. THE JEHOVAH’S WITNESS BIBLE DELETES THE EXACT SAME ONES!!!! I mean ALL of ’em!

The only difference between the NIV and the New World Translation deletions is that the JW Bible does not include any footnotes!

Isn’t that what I said above, that the NIV would eventually delete the footnotes? To learn more about the Jehovah’s Witnesses and their damnable doctrines go to our article on cults.

Our illiterate, lazy culture has spilled over to many professing Christians who have embraced the ways of the sluggard (and their want shall come upon them as an armed man). They are willing to read a Satanic “Bible” version missing what God says so they can be lazy and not do their due diligence. Your modern Bible perversion was written by men using dynamic equivalence. In other words, they are telling you their interpretation and their doctrine–NOT what the manuscripts really say. Don’t believe me? Look at the article on the NIV using gender inclusive language. Gender inclusivity wasn’t in the “originals”–it is a modern, feminist concept born of REBELLION.

A number of brothers and sisters, after examining the facts, have said, “I’m getting a King James!” Many have shared what a blessing the King James Bible has been to them and their spiritual life. The King James isn’t hard. I’ve seen one and two year olds quoting it and I am not exaggerating. I’ve taught it to people who cannot read and to children whose second language is English. I actually find the modern Bibles more difficult to read than the King James.

If you read a modern Bible, don’t let your pride get in the way of really looking at this information. Some people get hostile because I’m sharing these facts. Look up the verses and see that what you call the Bible is not the Bible. Get a real Bible. The King James conformable to the edition of 1611–NOT the New King James or the KJ21, etc. they are not King James Bibles.

WHOLE Bible verses deleted in the NIV

The following WHOLE verses have been removed in the NIV–whether in the text or footnotes…over 40 IN ALL!!!

Matthew 17:21 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”

Matthew 18:11 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.”

Matthew 21:44 — removed in the footnotes

Matthew 23:14 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.”

Mark 7:16 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.”

Mark 9:44 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”

Mark 9:46 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”

Mark 11:26 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

Mark 15:28 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.”

Mark 16:9-20 (all 12 verses) — There is a line separating the last 12 verses of Mark from the main text. Right under the line it says: [The two most reliable early manuscripts do not have Mark 16:9-20] (NIV, 1978 ed.) The Jehovah’s Witness “Bible” also places the last 12 verses of Mark as an appendix of sorts.

Luke 17:36 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.”

Luke 22:44 — removed in the footnotes

Luke 22:43 — removed in the footnotes

Luke 23:17 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“(For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)”

John 5:4 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.”

John 7:53-8:11 — removed in the footnotes

Acts 8:37 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. It’s deletion makes one think that people can be baptized and saved without believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. Sounds Catholic. What are you NIV readers missing?

“And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

Acts 15:34 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.”

Acts 24:7 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,”

Acts 28:29 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.”

Romans 16:24 — COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. What are you NIV readers missing?

“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”

I John 5:7 — Vitally important phrase COMPLETELY removed [also deleted from the Jehovah’s Witness “Bible”]. In the NIV it says,

“For there are three that testify:”

Compare the NIV reading with the following Jehovah’s Witness reading–

“For there are three witness bearers,”

What are you NIV readers missing? What does the real Bible say?

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

This is one of the GREATEST verses testifying of the trinity. That is why the Jehovah’s Witnesses leave it out. They do not believe in the trinity and they do not believe that Jesus is God. Why does the NIV leave it out…? Whole books have been written on the manuscript evidence that supports inclusion of this verse in the Bible. Reader, do you believe in the triunity of God? If so, then this deletion should offend you. People are playing around with the Bible and it ain’t funny.

NIV Reader: Do you have enough confidence in the NIV to…

tell God, OUT LOUD, that these verses do not belong in the Bible?

If not, you need to get a King James Bible so you can have some confidence.

He said, I said One writer said to me, “You [do not] talk about the large section of Mark [referring to Mark 16:9-20] which was INCLUDED with the provison that the earliest reliable manuscripts did not include that section.”

I said to him, That “provisional” statement is, at best, casting doubt on the word of God and at worst deleting the information in the footnotes.

You say that the NIV says, the MOST RELIABLE manuscripts don’t have it.

That is as good as saying, “If you accept this rendering you are accepting an inferior, unreliable manuscript.”

What they DON’T tell you is that those same “reliable” manuscripts DON’T EVEN INCLUDE THE WHOLE BOOK OF REVELATION!!!

If [their most reliable] manuscript is so reliable, then why didn’t they take out the WHOLE book of Revelation? Mmm? Selective deletion? Why not be true to what they say are the earliest and most reliable manuscripts? I have no respect for this.

The New Eye Opener
200 Bible Verse Changes Examined

Introduction

Why all the controversy about the King James Bible? Because modern Christian scholarship has CHANGED the Greek Textus Receptus, from which the King James Bible was translated, in 6,000 PLACES! This is why we have so many omissions in the “modern” versions of the Bible. Words omitted, in brackets, parentheses, or italics, are counted as NOT AUTHENTIC according to BRAINWASHED modern scholarship, represented in part by Griesbach, Lachmann, Tischendorf, Tregelles, Alford, Wordworth, Westcott and Hort.

The Apostasy Of the Early Church

The apostasy of the early Church prepared the way for corrupting copies of the original manuscripts. Corruption of the original Bible manuscripts and its influence can be traced from the days of Origen, 200 A.D. down through the committees responsible for the English Revised Version of 1881; American Standard Version of 1901; and all modern Bibles which depart from the Greek Textus Receptus. The following references are given to prove that this is true:

Here Is The Acid Test

Any version of the Bible that does not agree with the GREEK TEXTUS RECEPTUS, from which the King James Bible was translated in 1611, is certainly to be founded upon corrupted manuscripts.

Origen, being a textual critic, is supposed to have corrected numerous portions of the sacred manuscripts. Evidence to the contrary shows he changed them to agree with his own human philosophy of mystical and allegorical ideas. Thus, through deceptive scholarship of this kind, certain manuscripts became corrupt. Evidently from this source, our modern revised version Bibles and paraphrases have come.

Read pages 900-902, Vol. 16, 1936 edition Encyclopedia Britannica, and you will see that Origen taught the Lord Jesus Christ is a created being who did not have eternal existence AS God.

Conclusion

Watch–And Remember–Always to keep both eyes open…

“After my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, SPEAKING PERVERSE THINGS, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore WATCH, AND REMEMBER, that by the space of three years I ceased not to WARN EVERYONE NIGHT AND DAY WITH TEARS.”–Acts 20:29-31.
