Holy Costumes?
Religious Costumes Don’t Make Anyone Holy
But Many People Have Been Deceived Into Thinking That They Do
Would the Catholic pope get much respect if he walked around barefoot and in a farmer’s pair of bib-overalls or a wearing sneakers and a simple modest sweatshirt and sweatpants? No. But as the Bible says “men look at the outward appearance” (1 Samuel 16:7).
Folks, I hate to break the news to you but these are only costumes. There is nothing magical about them at all. Costumes are a great way for people to appear better than they really are. Many people are fooled by them into thinking that the person wearing the costume is much more in touch with God than they are. Usually the opposite is true. The religious leaders are often the most sinful and self-righteous among us.
“Man looketh at the outward appearance but the LORD looketh on the heart”
[1 Samuel 16:7]
