I Was A Roman Catholic

I Was A Roman Catholic

By Former Roman Catholic Joe Clifford

I was born and reared in a Roman Catholic home, educated in a Catholic school, served on the altar as an Altar Boy. I believed the Roman Catholic Church was what it claimed to be. I believed that it was right to pray to the Virgin Mary to intercede for my sins and that it was right to believe that I could confess my sins to a priest, and that I should pray for penance for my sins, and all would be well, and would be forgiven. I also believed there was a second chance. If I didn’t quite live up to the standard that was set here I would still have another chance to make it to heaven, as all Roman Catholics are taught there is a Purgatory and that all have to go there for a cleansing, a period of trial suffering and misery before they can enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

But thanks be to a most merciful Heavenly Father. He showed me in His most precious Word that I was as lost and undone as it was possible for me to be. First, He showed me there was only one mediator between God and men, our Precious Savior Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 2:5) which cancelled using the Virgin Mary as a mediator. And as far as I can find in the Holy inspired Word of God, there is no proof that she is in Heaven bodily (2 Corinthians 5:8). I believe that her body is in the grave awaiting the rapture of the rest of the dead in Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). And God’s Word showed me there is no second chance.

If you are not ready to meet the Lord when you leave this earth you will be eternally lost and condemned to torment in hell (Luke 16:19-31).There is only one way to make it to Heaven, and that is to repent of your sins, confess them to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 7:10), who died on Calvary for the sins of the whole world, then by faith, prayer and searching the Scriptures, you will become born again spiritually (John 3:3-7), made a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). Old things will pass away and all things will become new, and your citizenship will be in Heaven. Any Roman Catholic that will take time to read the Roman Catholic Bible, Douay version, will find everything in this tract verified in your own Bible. I was saved in the South Pacific, World War No. 2 while reading God’s Holy Word. – Joe Clifford

Christ Died For The Ungodly

by Horatius Bonar

The divine testimony concerning man is, that he is a sinner. God bears witness against him, not for him; and testifies that "there is none righteous, no, not one"; that there is "none that doeth good"; none "that understandeth"; none that even seeks after God, and, still more, none that loves Him (Psa. 14:1-3; Rom. 3:10-12). God speaks of man kindly, but severely; as one yearning over a lost child, yet as one who will make no terms with sin, and will "by no means clear the guilty." <continued>
