The Million Dollar Question About Life

The Million Dollar Question About Life

million dollar question about purpose of life

The value of your eternal soul is certainly worth more to you than a million dollars, is it not? Have you ever even thought about that? Did you KNOW that you have an eternal soul?… A soul that will spend eternity in Heaven or in Hell?

Would you sell one of your eyes for a million dollars? How about both? Any reasonable person values their eyes far more than any amount of money, and yet these eyes are just windows for your soul. How much more then is your soul worth?

“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:26

So then, ask yourself the Million-Dollar question: If you died tonight, where would you spend eternity, heaven or hell?

To find out, we first need to know what the standard is to get to heaven. Heaven is where God dwells, and God is perfect and holy, very holy. He loves righteousness and He hates sin. He has written a moral law called the 10 Commandments. These commandments reflect God’s perfection, so the standard is very high. See how you do…

Here is a quick test:

  1. How many lies have you told in your life?
  2.

  3. Have you ever taken something that doesn’t belong to you? (From a co-worker, boss, sibling, parent? The value is irrelevant.)
  4.

  5. Have you ever dishonoured or misused God’s name (such as phrases like OMG, or using the name of Jesus Christ as a swear word)? This is called blasphemy, and is deadly serious in God’s eyes.
  6.

  7. Have you ever looked with lust? This may seem like a silly question, but because God is perfect, even lust is like adultery in His eyes. He sees our motives and intentions. This is similar to the next question:

  8. Have you ever hated someone?
  9.

“Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.” 1 John 3:15

  10. Have you ever desired other people’s stuff? This is called coveting, and reveals a dissatisfaction, discontentment, and greed within our hearts.
  11. So far we’ve only been through 6 of God’s commandments. There’s still four more to go, but I think you get the point. No matter how hard we try, we just don’t match up to God’s perfection, because our hearts are sinful.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23

Now because God is Holy and Righteous He must deal with lawbreakers (sinners). Because God is good, He must punish sin. Just like a ‘good’ judge on earth would make sure a serial criminal receives justice and is sentence according to the law. Because God is good, He too must punish sin. But because our sin is infinitely more serious because of who we’ve sinned against (God), His punishment far more serious.

“For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23

God has given the death sentence to all law-breakers, and not just physical death, but eternal death. This is what Hell is.

Death is not a cessation of existence & consciousness. It is a removal from God’s grace, mercy and love.

Eternal life is to know God and His Son Jesus Christ, and experience His love and Grace. Eternal death is the opposite. It is eternal separation from God and from all that is good, and it involves enduring His wrath and justice forever.

So if we’ve sinned, God must judge us accordingly. Unlike what many believe, good works are not able to make up for past sins. God is Holy and Just, and the punishment we deserve is Hell. This is sobering news, but it should make us cry out to God for mercy. It should cause us to humble ourselves before Him, and seek a solution to this problem.

Thankfully, with God there is hope. Although God is Just and Righteous, He is also Kind and Loving. And He is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance. However, God can’t overlook our sin, the punishment must still be paid. So how can it be paid without us going to Hell forever? Great question. In God’s eternal wisdom, He made a way. Get ready for the best news in the universe:

God sent His Divine Son – the Lord Jesus Christ – into our world to be born of a virgin and then to walk this earth for 33 years fulfilling many biblical prophecies about a coming Messiah, a Messiah who would come into our world to suffer and die on a cross (death by crucifixion) to redeem sinners like you and me from the wrath of God. We broke God’s law, but Jesus willingly paid the penalty so we could be forgiven.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

We deserve eternal death for our sin, but instead our eternal God, in the Person of Jesus Christ, died to pay the full penalty for our lifetime of sin.

“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit” 1 Peter 3:18

Then Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death, and conquering the power of death. Because He lives forever, you can live forever also. After Jesus rose from the dead He was seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses. He fulfilled all the prophecies of the promised Savior in the Old Testament Scriptures. Please don’t wait any longer. Repent now – and trust Jesus as your Savior from Hell, and God will forgive you and grant you the gift of eternal life.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

While there is life, there is hope. Once you die, there is no longer any hope and not longer any opportunity to repent and seek the Lord… only Judgment Day and the wrath of God are left for you. Read the Bible, asking God to show you the truth about Himself, about salvation and about your eternal soul. If and when you become truly “saved” by God and you are trusting in Jesus alone (not in your good deeds or your religion) to save your soul, show your gratitude, by reading the Bible daily and obeying it, join a bible-believing Christian church, and be baptized.

Christ Died For The Ungodly

by Horatius Bonar

The divine testimony concerning man is, that he is a sinner. God bears witness against him, not for him; and testifies that "there is none righteous, no, not one"; that there is "none that doeth good"; none "that understandeth"; none that even seeks after God, and, still more, none that loves Him (Psa. 14:1-3; Rom. 3:10-12). God speaks of man kindly, but severely; as one yearning over a lost child, yet as one who will make no terms with sin, and will "by no means clear the guilty." <continued>
