What Then?
What Then?
When the plants of our mighty cities
Have turned out their last finished work;
When our merchants have sold their last yardage
And have dismissed the last tired clerk,
When our banks have raked in their last dollar
And paid out their last dividend;
When the Judge of the earth says, “Closed for the night.”
And asks for a balance – what then?
When the choir has sung its last anthem,
the preacher has made his last… Continue reading
This Coming Year
This Coming Year
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” (Psalms 90:12)
Dear Master, for this coming year
Just one request I bring:
I do not pray for happiness
Or any earthly thing
I do not ask to understand
The way Thou leadest me,
But this I ask: Teach me to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.

The World’s Bible
The World’s Bible
Christ has no hands but our hands
to do His work today.
He has no feet but our feet
to lead men in His way.
He has no tongue but our tongues

The dross from the gold to destroy.
When He leads through some valley of trouble,
His powerful hand we can trace;
For the… Continue reading
The New Year
The New Year
I do not know, I cannot see
What God’s kind hand prepares for me,
Nor can my glance pierce through the haze
Which covers all my future ways;
But yet I know that o’er it all
Rules He who notes the sparrow’s fall.
I know the Hand that hath me fed
And through the year my feet hath led;
I know the everlasting arm
That hath upheld and kept from harm.
