Go And Tell – An Article About Sharing Your Faith In Christ

Christian gospel preaching evangelism faith sharing

In this brief article we will discuss some simple, yet profound ways of sharing the gospel on a regular basis.

1Peter 3:15 says: “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:” , Hmmmm. Does this mean to only tell others about the Good News when specifically asked? No, that is not at all what this verse is telling us. In fact, there are many verses in the Bible that tell of our great honor and privilege of proclaiming the Good News to others.

2Timothy 4:2 & 5 tell us to “do the work of an evangelist” and “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season.” The first part of this verse tells us that if we are in Christ. Then we are also, told in John chapter 6 that we shall be “taught of God”… “It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.” [John 6:45] which is of course essential to God causing us to come, as indicated in Psalm 65:4a: “Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee”, and stated in John 6:37a: “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me.”

Are people asking you about the Hope that is in you? Perhaps they are doing so more than you realize. For instance, how often are you casually asked, “How ya doing?” or “How are you?”. Because of the Hope (Christ) that is in you, you can honestly respond, “I’m doing better than I deserve, even on my worse day, because…” at which point you can lead into a Gospel related explanation, such as:

“because God saved my soul from hell when I became Born-again.”

“because I now know I have eternal life in Heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ, my wonderful Savior.”

“because I now have true salvation from God. Do YOU?”

There are many casual ways of introducing the Good News of salvation to others. However, be sure to state the difference between the Gospel (the Good News of the Christian faith) and manmade works-based religion. Manmade religion is always telling people what to “do” and not to “do.” The Gospel Good News is never “do,” it is always “done,” by Christ from start to finish. Done, so completely that Paul said, “I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified” [1Corinthians 2:2]. To make this even clearer, we can say that the Good News is never about actions we must DO but rather the action that GOD has already DONE, that is: “Christ crucified”.

At this point, one may want to know what God actually requires, asking some variation of the question, “what must I do?” To answer this, we can look to the Bible verses listed here:

1. The question “What must I do to be saved?” in light of the Good News Proclamation, was presented to Jesus, Peter, and Paul respectively. There are many different responses concerning the question, “what must/shall I/we do?” in order to inherit, achieve, obtain, or earn Eternal Life.

2. In the books of Matthew, Luke and Acts, many asked Jesus, Peter, and Paul a similar question. Many asked, “What must I do to get to heaven?”. I believe that “this question” can be prideful as well as legalistic.

3. Here are the typical person’s answers to the above question “What must I do to get to heaven?”:
     a. “Be perfect” [Matthew 19:21]
     b. “Sell all you have, give to the poor, come, take up your cross, follow me” [Mark 10:21]
     c. “Do what the Law says” [Luke 10:26-28]
     d. “Repent and be baptized” [Acts 2:38]
     e. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.” [Acts 16:31]

4. When the disciples heard the Lord Jesus Christ’s response to the question: “What good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?” [Matthew 19:16]:

If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.” [Matthew 19:21]
     and:
“And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” [Matthew 19:24]

They correctly responded, “Who then can be saved?” [Matthew 19:25].

5. Jesus’ response to His disciples question was: “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” [Matthew 19:26].

6. For the Perfect Holy God of heaven and earth can only accept absolute Perfection, i.e. Christ (1Peter 1:16, Psalm 5:4). The “Perfection” that God requires is completely provided by Christ, as stated in 1John 4:17, “as He is, so are we in this world.”

May God richly bless you as you share the Good News of salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ, and what He and He alone accomplished for lost sinners like you and I.

Christ Died For The Ungodly

by Horatius Bonar

The divine testimony concerning man is, that he is a sinner. God bears witness against him, not for him; and testifies that "there is none righteous, no, not one"; that there is "none that doeth good"; none "that understandeth"; none that even seeks after God, and, still more, none that loves Him (Psa. 14:1-3; Rom. 3:10-12). God speaks of man kindly, but severely; as one yearning over a lost child, yet as one who will make no terms with sin, and will "by no means clear the guilty." <continued>
