Three Lies That The Mormons Will Tell You

Three Lies That The Mormons Will Tell You

book of mormon lies errors false unbiblical teachings

Contrary to what they may tell you, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (hereafter referred to as the Mormon Church) are not Christian. They will lead you to believe they are, but in reality they deny the major doctrines of the Word of God and teach many that are false. Space will not permit me to examine all of these false teachings, but with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the truth from the Word of God, I will examine three.

Lie #1 – What The Mormon Church Teaches About God

“God himself was once as we are now and is an exalted man…” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Deseret Publishing Co., 1976) This false teaching came from the founder of the Mormon church, who was considered by many that knew him to be “…destitute of moral character and addicted to vicious habits.” (Kingdom of the Cults, P. 175, Bethany House Publishers, 1985) How could anyone believe that God was, at any time, like we are. The truth is that we are all sinners, yes even the Prophet Joseph Smith. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23. “…There is none righteous, no, not one:”Romans 3:10.

So you see, the Bible says that we all have a sin problem and there would not be any hope if God was like we are. The Bible declares that God is a righteous God and will only accept His own righteousness, therefore we must have His righteousness to be justified in His sight.

“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.” Romans 3:21,22,24-26.

Lie #2 – What The Mormon Church Teaches About The Virgin Birth Of Christ

The Mormon Prophet Brigham Young taught the “Adam-god” doctrine, which led him to erroneous teachings about the “Virgin Birth” of Jesus Christ. He stated that “Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost…, but…was begotten in the flesh by the same character that was in the garden of Eden” (Journal of Discourses, Vol 1) The Bible tells us that Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ and that Jesus was conceived in her by the Holy Spirit of God. For a person to teach otherwise, is denying the very foundation of our Christian faith.

The Old Testament Scriptures foretold of His virgin birth: “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14

The New Testament confirms His virgin birth: “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” Luke 1:35

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.” Matthew 1:18,20,21,24,25

Lie #3 – What The Mormon Church Teaches About Salvation Through Jesus Christ

The first thing we need to understand is that the Jesus of Mormonism, is not the Jesus Christ of the Bible. “Joseph Smith taught that there were certain sins so grievous that man may commit, that they will place the transgressors beyond the power of the atonement of Christ. If these offenses are committed, then the blood of Christ will not cleanse them from their sins even though they repent. Therefore their only hope is to have their own blood shed to atone, as far as possible, in their behalf.” (Doctrines of Salvation, Deseret Publishing Co. 1954). This clearly states the false teachings of the Mormon church.

We do not have to accept the lies of men, since we have the Word of God as our authority. Notice what God has said, in His Word, concerning the atonement for sin. “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;” Colossians 2:13,14. Notice how the Scriptures testify that all sins have been paid for, removed, and forgiven, by God.

It is very easy to see that the teachings of theMormon church are nothing but lies and distortions of the Word of God. There is nothing “Christian” about them. Please do not let them lead you away from the Truth that is found only in God’s Word, the Bible. You can be saved today. You can have a home in Heaven. Jesus has made peace with God for you. “And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things into himself;…” Colossians 1:20.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. Hethat believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” John 3:16-17,36

Will you submit yourself to the righteousness of God, which is available to all believers, in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. “For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” Romans 10:2,3,4

Christ Died For The Ungodly

by Horatius Bonar

The divine testimony concerning man is, that he is a sinner. God bears witness against him, not for him; and testifies that "there is none righteous, no, not one"; that there is "none that doeth good"; none "that understandeth"; none that even seeks after God, and, still more, none that loves Him (Psa. 14:1-3; Rom. 3:10-12). God speaks of man kindly, but severely; as one yearning over a lost child, yet as one who will make no terms with sin, and will "by no means clear the guilty." <continued>
