Why JESUS, not MARY is the ark of the New Covenant

Why JESUS, not MARY is the ark of the New Covenant

After Jesus died, they took His body and placed it in a tomb. On the third day Mary Magdalene went to the tomb. John 20:11-12 tells us: “But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, And seeth two angels in white SITTING, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.” Notice how these two angels were SITTING. They were sitting in the layout of the mercy seat. They were sitting one on one end and one on the other end. There would have still been blood where Jesus’ body had been laid. So when Mary Magdalene saw the empty tomb she also saw the REAL mercy seat, the place where Jesus body had been laid and where HIS BLOOD could be seen between two SITTING angels! Yet Jesus’ body was not there, because the grave could not hold Him.

Jesus’ body and blood were the price that God paid for the forgiveness of our sins which enable the reestablishment of our relationship with God. Christ’s shed blood replaces the blood sacrifices that had previously been offered for the sins of the people, in a far superior way, in that all our sins are completely forgiven, past, present and future – if and when God saves us. Therefore, the blood of Jesus became the New Covenant[1] and Jesus himself is the Ark of that covenant[2].

Christ Died For The Ungodly

by Horatius Bonar

The divine testimony concerning man is, that he is a sinner. God bears witness against him, not for him; and testifies that "there is none righteous, no, not one"; that there is "none that doeth good"; none "that understandeth"; none that even seeks after God, and, still more, none that loves Him (Psa. 14:1-3; Rom. 3:10-12). God speaks of man kindly, but severely; as one yearning over a lost child, yet as one who will make no terms with sin, and will "by no means clear the guilty." <continued>
