About Protestantism

Various aspects of Protestantism, including but not limited to views on salvation, Bible versions, history, and denominations.

True Christianity seeks to ensure that all Christian teaching (doctrine) and Christian living is in agreement with Scripture (the Bible).  The Protestant Reformation came about with this purpose in mind… an attempt – by many Catholic priests, monks and other Catholics – to reform (correct) the Catholic church to be in line with bible teachings.  This is where the expression “Sola Scripturea” com from – which is Latin for Scripture Alone. The teachers and preachers who grew of out this “protestant” movement were protesting against many serious religious issues of their time:

  • First and foremost: false teachings about salvation
  • False teachings about God, Mary, Jesus and man’s own spiritual condition
  • Serious abuses of power in the Catholic leadership
  • Morally corrupt church leaders

post-trip pre-trib rapture of the Christian Church

Here are some materials you may wish to examine to see some of the views on Dispensationalism, including some opposing views that are no longer very popular within the Church at large of our day, especially the Church in the United States. Historically, did the corporate Church really believe in and teach about a secret rapture of the Church prior to a 7 year tribulation period? Or did they generally believe that the rapture would be… Continue reading

A Solemn Warning From Jesus About Lost Souls

remember Lots wife sodom burning pillar of salt

There are few warnings in Scripture more solemn than this. The Lord Jesus Christ says to us (in Luke 17:32) “Remember Lot’s wife.”

Lot’s wife was a professor of religion: her husband was a “righteous man” (II Peter 2:8). She left Sodom with him on the day when Sodom was destroyed; she looked back towards the city from behind her husband, against God’s… Continue reading

Introduction

Founded in 1478, the Spanish Inquisition was not finally abolished until 1834.

In 1809 Colonel Lehmanowsky was attached to that part of Napoleon’s army which was stationed at Madrid. While in the city, the Colonel used to speak freely among the people what he thought of the Priests and Jesuits, and of the Inquisition. It had been decreed by Napoleon that the Inquisition and Monasteries should be suppressed, but the… Continue reading

“…in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. (2 Cor 11:23 KJV)”

With the rise of Islam very much in the news, the history of the Reformation in Hungary makes an interesting study. The Church there not only had to contend for the faith against Roman Catholicism but also against the Islamic Turks who invaded Hungarian territory. The Christian can learn much from the history… Continue reading

Christ Died For The Ungodly

by Horatius Bonar

The divine testimony concerning man is, that he is a sinner. God bears witness against him, not for him; and testifies that "there is none righteous, no, not one"; that there is "none that doeth good"; none "that understandeth"; none that even seeks after God, and, still more, none that loves Him (Psa. 14:1-3; Rom. 3:10-12). God speaks of man kindly, but severely; as one yearning over a lost child, yet as one who will make no terms with sin, and will "by no means clear the guilty." <continued>
