Ten Principles Of Spiritual Prosperity

Some “recovery” programs utilize these principles but they are simply biblical principles for living an obedient Christian life, as noted in the scripture references.

  1. If God is against it, so am I.

(Galatians 5:19-24) — “19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”
  2.

  3. Every sin has its origin in the heart.

(Jeremiah 17:9) — “9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

(Proverbs 4:23) — “23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

(Romans 13:14) — “14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”
  4.

  5. It is easier to keep the heart clean that it is to clean it once it has been defiled.

(Proverbs 22:3) — “3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.”

(Proverbs 6:27-28) — “27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? 28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?”
  6.

  7. It is not possible to fight a fleshly appetite by indulging in it.

(Ecclesiastes 5:10) — “10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.”

(James 1:14-15) — “14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
  8.

  9. Small compromises lead to great disasters.

(Luke 16:10) — “10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.”

(Matthew 6:24) — “24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

(Romans 6:16) — “16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”
  10.

  11. Those who do not love the Lord will not help us serve the Lord.

(John 5:18-20) — “18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. 19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. 20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.”

(Proverbs 25:15-16) — “15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone. 16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.”
  12.

  13. Our sinful habits do hurt those who follow us.

(Romans 14:7) — “7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.”

(I Corinthians 10:23-24) — “23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. 24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.”
  14.

  15. It is not possible to fight a fleshly temptation with a fleshly weapon.

(II Corinthians 10:3-5) — “3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

(I John 4:4) — “4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
  16.

  17. We lose our freedom of choice when we give in to sin.  The consequences of our choices are inevitable, incalculable, and up to God.

(Proverbs 5:22) — “22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.”

(Proverbs 20:17) — “17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.”

(Proverbs 9:17-18) — “17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. 18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.”
  18.

  19. God balances guilt with blame.  When we accept the blame for our actions God will remove the guilt.

(I John 1:9) — “9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Christ Died For The Ungodly

by Horatius Bonar

The divine testimony concerning man is, that he is a sinner. God bears witness against him, not for him; and testifies that "there is none righteous, no, not one"; that there is "none that doeth good"; none "that understandeth"; none that even seeks after God, and, still more, none that loves Him (Psa. 14:1-3; Rom. 3:10-12). God speaks of man kindly, but severely; as one yearning over a lost child, yet as one who will make no terms with sin, and will "by no means clear the guilty." <continued>
