Did Jesus Really Mean We Should Literally Eat His Flesh

And Drink His Blood, In John Chapter 6?

eating flesh drinking blood of jesus symbolic or literal

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye EAT THE FLESH of the Son of man, and DRINK HIS BLOOD, ye have no life in you. Whoso EATETH MY FLESH, and DRINKETH MY BLOOD, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For MY FLESH IS MEAT indeed, and MY BLOOD IS DRINK indeed. He that EATHETH MY FLESH, and DRINKETH MY BLOOD, dwelleth in me, and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so HE THAT EATETH ME, even he shall live by me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.” John 6:51-58

Catholics make the same mistake in their interpretation of Jesus’ words in John chapter 6 as those who WALKED AWAY from Jesus after He said those words. Catholics are told by their Church to take Jesus LITERALLY, when in fact, He was speaking figuratively as He went on to say in John 6:63. However, Catholics are made to think they are “better” than those who walked away because they embrace the false assumption that Jesus was speaking literally. But they are not better. They are just as mistaken as those who walked away from Jesus. They still miss the point. They still misunderstand the message Jesus was conveying to His TRUE disciples as we will now see.

How we can know what Jesus really meant when He spoke about eating His flesh in John chapter 6:

“It is the SPIRIT that quickeneth [makes alive]; THE FLESH PROFITETH NOTHING: the WORDS that I speak unto you, they are SPIRIT, and they are LIFE.” – John 6:63

God’s TRUE children feed on GOD’S WORD. False children of God look for ANY OTHER MEANING than that (i.e. other than feeding on God’s Word) in John chapter 6, because they prefer to feed on MAN’S WORD, man’s wisdom, man’s traditions and man’s false Bible interpretations.

The words Jesus was using prior to verse 63 was symbolic language to weed out fake followers from the true. Once the fake followers walked away, Jesus then told His true followers about the spiritual, symbolic meaning of His prior statements.

Eating human flesh is cannibalism. Jesus would never teach people to violate His Word. God forbids cannibalism and forbids drinking blood so we know that Jesus was speaking in spiritual terms, not physical/literal terms. The Old Testament repeatedly forbids the drinking of blood. Here is just one of MANY examples of that:

“Moreover ye shall eat no manner of BLOOD, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings. Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of BLOOD, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.” – Leviticus 7:26-27

The bread in the communion ordinance is meant to be with REAL bread, not round wafers and it is meant to be symbolic, as in a memorial service:

“And he took BREAD [not round wafers], and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do IN REMEMBRANCE of me.” – Luke 22:19

So are YOU trusting in Jesus and His merits alone to take away ALL your sins OR do you believe a Church that is telling their followers that eating wafers can take away sins? — RM Kane

Christ Died For The Ungodly

by Horatius Bonar

The divine testimony concerning man is, that he is a sinner. God bears witness against him, not for him; and testifies that "there is none righteous, no, not one"; that there is "none that doeth good"; none "that understandeth"; none that even seeks after God, and, still more, none that loves Him (Psa. 14:1-3; Rom. 3:10-12). God speaks of man kindly, but severely; as one yearning over a lost child, yet as one who will make no terms with sin, and will "by no means clear the guilty." <continued>
